After playing for the junior team of Dinamo Zagreb, he joined the main team in 2009 and was the part of the team that won the Croatian First League for multiple times and Croatian Cup in 2011/12 and 2011/12 season.

He was transferred to fellow Croatian football club, Lokomotiva as the part of the loan deal in 2009. The Croatian defender was then transferred to Italian football club, Genoa for a transfer fee of around €4.6 million in the summer of 2013.

He signed with another Italian football club, Sassuolo for a transfer fee of €3.5 million with € 2 million in the summer of 2014.
